Pastiche is a band with a difference!
Firstly, the members believe that divisions between first-rate music created in one particular era and locality, from high-quality music composed in another time and place, are superficial.
Hence, music from any period, location, and genre may be included in the repertoire - the only criterion for inclusion being that the group deem the music to have intrinsic value.
Secondly, the musicians in Pastiche are highly skilled and experienced in the art and science of improvising melodies over harmonic patterns.
Thirdly, a blending process takes place in which musical styles are combined. Thus, something new is created whilst retaining the essence of its roots.
You are sure to find integrity and quality in the classical/jazz fusion arrangements by Aberdeen based guitarist Bill Mann in collaboration with Margaret and others in this collective. Pastiche recently performed two dates in the Best of Belhaven Sunday Jazz at The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen to appreciative audiences and the members are keen to broaden their horizon.
Pastiche is normally a sextet. Instruments include flute, alto flute, clarinet, saxophone, accordion, guitar, bass, piano and drums. However, the line-up could be augmented (e.g. strings) depending on event size and requirements.
